Because people trying to cut carbs really don't want to do that, so they mess up good food to help themselves feel less guilty.

[She wasn't a fan of fad diets. Cutting carbs had it's purpose, but only for people with specific health problems and it was never a good long term solution for the general population.]

Makes sense. I know I'd be grumpy if I had to cut good food out of my diet.

Moderation is usually the key, not complete elimination. People don't get that. I mean-- people who are lactose intolerant can still have ice cream if they prepare themselves ahead of time, which is good! There's so many good foods they'd be missing out on otherwise.

Aren't there lactose free versions of ice cream?

There are, but they don't really taste the same as just going and getting a tub of Edi's for yourself.

That sucks. I'm glad I don't have any allergies.

That's the only one I've got-- and it's not so bad. They make lactose pills, too. So I just take one of those and I can have all the ice cream I want without worry!

Is that why you're into this alternative food stuff?

No-- I'm actually careful about that stuff. I'm studying to be a physical therapist, you see, and I can't help but stumble upon a lot of information about these things just by doing my homework.

Some of it is really interesting!

Oh - it's good to know things about diet if your job is making people healthy. You'll be a well-rounded health person.

Shouldn't that be the goal of everyone who works in healthcare?

Some people specialize more, and that's not bad in and of itself...

I'm going to be specializing too, but I don't see that as an excuse to not know at least a little of these things.

College student, writer. I have a couple of short stories published and I'm working on my first novel.

What kind of novel is it? Historical? Mystery??

Space drama centering around the theme of moral relativism.

Whoa, that sounds really deep! What led you to choosing to write about that?

Spite about science fiction being dismissed as not 'serious' literature just because it takes places on Venus and not Venezuela.

[Spite is a great motivator.]

Makes sense. It always bothered me that no one thinks sci-fi is a good genre when the tv is full of crime dramas all over the place. Don't people get bored?

Crime dramas will sell, and producers like money. The actually interesting concepts are too risky to put on the air, apparently.

It's kind of sad though, when there are so many other interesting stories to tell!

Books are a little less restricted in what you can get published, but genres are more strictly defined. Science fiction isn't 'serious'.

See, I never understood why that is. There's so many good, serious plots in science fiction that it not being 'serious' just... doesn't make sense!

Elitists are stupid. That's what motivates me to write this.

[Along with other things like making something of himself, making money, etc. etc.]

[All of them were very good motives in Felicia's opinion. There was no arguing them!]

Well, I hope you're successful in writing your book. It really sounds like everyone needs to see that sort of change right now-- and I'm really excited to read it when you're done.
